Amissah A. Amanda

Amanda Ama Amissah come from Batanya in the Central Region of Ghana and lives in Takoradi, Western Region. I had my primary and junior high education at Young Christian Preparatory School and proceeded to senior high at Mfantsiman Girls’ where my passion for Agriculture grew greatly especially in relation to crop production. I gained admission into Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and obtained Bachelor of Science Agricultural Biotechnology degree of which I worked on callus induction from leaf explants of African locus bean (Parkia biglobosa) for somatic embryogenesis. After, I had my National Service at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Sekondi at the extension department where I had countless interactions with farmers with various issues of which the use of quality seeds for farming was underrated.

My quest to acquire more knowledge to make an impact in attaining food security in the country drove me to apply for MPhil Seed Science and Technology having an opportunity to win a scholarship granted by DAAD at West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI).

In the near future, I aspire to use this opportunity to solve problems regarding food security through the use of highly quality seeds to improve livelihood of farmers.
