Godwin Doe Tornyor is a dynamic and self-motivated individual with strong passion for teamwork and scientific research. I developed interest in science growing up which led me to study Pure science at Sogakofe Senior High School in Sogakofe, Volta Region of Ghana. As a budding scientist, I am often fascinated with opportunities that challenge my curiosity, I have the ambition to stay and work at the cutting edge of scientific research and teaching.
I desire Biostatistics because of its complex and flinty mathematical and analytical nature. Nonetheless, its application to several fields such as; medicine, agriculture, among others. This has encouraged me to stay and work as a National Service person under the mentorship of Prof. K. Ofori (Plant Breeder) and Dr. Eric Cornelius (Plant Pathologist) after obtaining a degree in BSc. Agriculture (Crop Science) at the University of Ghana, Legon (2012-2016).
During this same period, I had the privilege to assist several MPhil (Crop Science) and PhD Plant Breeding (WACCI) candidates on their research fields that led to my acumen in Plant Breeding and Genetics, realizing the role of quality seed in plant growth and development. Based on this ground, I applied for the Seed Science and Technology (SST) programme at the prestigious West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) and kudos to the World Bank, a dream come true my application was successful to be groomed professionally along the seed value chain.
Moreover, due to my versatility; taking on any opportunity available to me, I have in-depth knowledge and practical skills in greenhouse vegetable production and management among others. I am also a meticulous planner and an organizer, adept at tracking and responding to numerous details. I believe to be a great addition to the seed industry as a researcher, probably continue with PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics and most importantly serve as an entrepreneur in agribusiness towards making the world food secured. I am open to cooperate with actors in the seed value chain both national and international to enable me realize my dream and aspirations as a Scientist and Entrepreneur.
