Joseph Okpani Mbe

Joseph Okpani Mbe is a research scientist in one of the foremost Agricultural Research Centers in Nigeria (NRCRI Umudike). He has worked in diverse areas of research and development (R&D) aimed at addressing the current gap in the African Agricultural value chain.

He holds B.Sc and M.Sc in Soil Science from Federal University of Technology (FUTO) Owerri Nigeria. He also holds another M.Sc degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Coimbatore, India. He is a PhD student in West Africa Center for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana Legon.

Mbe has vast experience in soil science, agronomy, conventional and molecular plant breeding. His PhD research interest is “Genomic Studies for Nitrogen-Use Efficiency in Cassava”. He hopes that his research efforts would translate to reduction in economic and environmental cost of cassava production.
