Vashti B. Appiah-Adjei

Vashti Boakyewaa Appiah-Adjei is a Ghanaian and a graduate from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she pursued a four-year degree programme in Agriculture. She had the opportunity to train as an intern at Soil Research Institute (SRI-CSIR) and Crop Research Institute (CRI-CSIR) and did her National Service at Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) where her main duty was teaching assistant. During her period of service at KITA, she had several opportunities to partake in various workshops such as World Climate Simulation in 2016, Agriculture extension as a business in 2017, Group Dynamics and Leadership Skills in 2017, 1st Ontmoet Afrika Ghana Partners Conference in 2016 all organized in KITA. She also partook in some competency-based trainings at KITA such as Soybeans Processing Technology, Mushroom Production Technology, Grasscutter and Rabbit Production. After her training, she also trained some women in mushroom production and soybean processing. She also trained in Competency-Based Facilitation and Assessment at KITA in 2017. Vashti participated in 2nd Ghana Youth and sustainable Development held at Accra in 2017 and also participated in the Training of Farm machinery operators on: Proper Handling and filed application of Farm Machinery, Implements and Equipment at Agriculture Mechanisation Training Centre, Adidome Farm Institute – Volta region.   

Vashti is currently a student at the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) – University of Ghana, pursuing MPhil Seed Science and Technology. Studying at WACCI is a great privilege for her and she strongly believes she will be a great resource to the country on issues concerning food insecurity and be a great addition to improving the seed industry in her country and beyond since, seed is the most important input in crop production. She will also like to improve the livelihood of farmers by making quality seed easily available to farmers, which will increase productivity and solve food insecurity issues at large in the country.

 Her versatile experience in various aspects of Agriculture will add up to her entrepreneurial aspect of her life in future. She now wants to be an entrepreneur in the aspect of seed science in order to boldly push crop production forward and fight against food insecurity and other aspects of Agriculture. Vashti is very passionate about Agriculture especially women in Agriculture and the Agriculture serving as a livelihood alternative for others. She is a selfless lady who is willing to share and help others with her knowledge in Agriculture.
