Dr. Priscilla Adofo

Priscilla Adofo Boateng is the last born of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Adofo Boateng both of whom hail from the beautiful mountainousfriendly and tourist- attracting town of Obo-Kwahu in the Eastern region of Ghana. She recalls how lovingly her daddy referred to her asdoctor at a tender age because of her love for books and her passion to assist others. Looking back she realizes the accolade was a seed her father was sowing on her infantile yet fertile mind. She attended St. Roses Secondary Schoolwhere she pursued the General Science programme after which she gained admission into Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to pursue and obtain a degree in Agriculture. Exposition to the programme at KNUST opened her eyes to the world of opportunities. She embraced the courses and knew without a shadow of doubt that a career in Agriculture was what she wanted. This is because it tied in with her vision to impart her knowledge to farmersespecially the vulnerable womento enable them increase productivity and improve their living conditions. With enthusiasmshe did her national service at CSIR- Crops Research Institute after which she worked for two years. Hunger for more knowledge drove her to apply for and win a scholarship from the Alliance of Green Revolution in Africa to pursue an MSc Plant breeding at KNUST. Indeed getting the opportunity to study for her PhD at WACCI is God sent. She believes she is closer than ever to achieving her dream. She is of the opinion thatby the end of the programmeshe would be fully empowered with effective tools to impact the farmers and graduates in her country; the knowledge acquired will be also utilized to improve the state of agricultural research and practice in Ghana. Priscilla is a research scientist and is happily married to Ing. Joseph Xavier Francisco Ribeiro.
