Dr. Abdalla Dao

Dao

For me agriculture transcends a mere profession it is a way of life and through it I experience the power of God. Born in Bobo Dioulasso Burkina Faso Dao Abdalla studied Natural Science at the University of Ouagadougou specialising in Plant Phyto-Chemistry.
His initial plan was to become an expert in natural (alternative) medicine. However his plans changed when he enrolled at the Regional Research Centre for Improvement of Resistance to Drought (CERAAS) in Senegal. At CERAAS Abdalla worked on sorghum. My love for plants helped my cause he says. He graduated from CERAAS with a Master of Science degree in Plant Biology from the University of Dakar in July 2007. Since then he has been working at the Institute de l'Environnement et de Recherche Agricole (INERA) in Burkina Faso as a researcher on the improvement of resistance to drought in Maize. For His project work at WACCI Abdalla hopes to research into breeding for drought resistance in maize one of the three major crops in Burkina Faso that is seriously hampered by drought. He hopes to develop new varieties of maize tolerant or resistant to drought and rain irregularity. Food security is a big challenge in our part of the world but it is a challenge which is not insurmountable. I am grateful to God and AGRA for the opportunity to learn and be better positioned to contribute to the fight against hunger and poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa and the world at large He says.
