CANN Rachel

Rachel hold a BSc in Agriculture (Crop Science), MPhil in Crop Science (Genetics and Plant Breeding) from University of Ghana Legon and is currently pursuing a PHD in Plant Breeding at West African Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) under the DAAD scholarship. Her PHD research aims at Breeding  Maize Streak Virus (MSV) resistant  Maize using Marker Assisted Backcrossing. As part of her professional goal as a Plant Breeder, she aims to develop crop varieties with superior qualities which will go a long way to improve the livelihood of farmers in the country. And joining the WACCI family is the surest way of making this dream a reality.

Rachel is an agric officer at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and works with over 100 farmers, assisting them in the diagnosis of farm and farming related problems and advise on solutions to such problems.  She is also involved in the training of farmers on new farming technologies and also the organization of Research Extension Linkage Committee (RELC) were farmers and other stalk holders are brought together in oder to find solutions to farmers problems on the field. She has also groomed several farmers to win awards during Farmers day Celebration. She is married with two beautiful children.
