I isolated and characterized simple sequence repeats (microsatellites) in Echinochloa species and screened a panel with my developed SSR primers and amplified fragment length polymorphisms.

1993-1994 (3 mths)     Research Scientist, Plant Breeding International, Cambridge, England. Made wide crosses between maize and wheat and rescued embryos for the development of doubled haploids. I also worked on the International barley genome mapping project using Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms (RFLPs) to screen a mapping population.

MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

Director, West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI),University of Ghana (2007 to date).

Was the lead UG academic in the international (UG-Cornell University) partnership that secured funding for the establishment of the Centre in the University. Led the development of physical infrastructure, recruitment of human resources; established protocols and developed the strategic plan and project implementation plan for the Centre. Responsible for academic, financial and administrative leadership of the Centre.  Currently, 2 Associate Directors, 7 Associate Faculty, 20 Visiting Scientists from fifteen countries, 24 local staff and 49 PhD students from nine countries are under my management.

 

Dean, International Programmes, University of Ghana (2006-2009).

Managed about 30 active agreements; Signed 44 new partnership agreements; Hosted 148 visiting delegations from institutions worldwide; Was instrumental in securing 2 PhD scholarships tenable at University of Paris XI, Orsay for the University from the French Embassy in Ghana.
