DANSO Benjamin

Benjamin Aboagye Danso is an agricultural research scientist with specialty in plant breeding, genetics, biotechnology, agronomy and integrated pest management. He works with Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) as the Director of Research and Training projects. He is also a farmer with over 40 acres of land producing cocoa, maize, snail, mushroom, grasscutter, sheep and goat. He has 15 employees (60% female) and has directly trained and volunteered as consultant for over 500 successful farmers in Ghana. Benjamin has conducted several researches in the fields of Plant breeding, Agronomy, Genetics, Integrated pest management and post-harvest losses. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) where he got trained in leadership and entrepreneurship. He has received several academic and professional fellowship awards, notable among them are the A.G. Leventis Foundation Fellowship in 2015 and the DAAD scholarship award in 2018 to pursue his PhD in WACCI. His PhD research work aims at breeding for resistance to cercospora leaf spots disease in groundnut. His ambition for the next 30 years is to develop at least 20 improved varieties of crops and also to become the number 1 exporter of indigenous animal products in Africa. Benjamin was born on 1st February, 1991 in a farming community known as Anum Apapam in the Eastern region of Ghana. He had his secondary education in Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School, Bachelor’s Degree from Department of Botany (UG) and Master’s Degree from Department of Crop Science (UG). Benjamin is currently a PHD student at WACCI, University of Ghana. He is married and has a set of twins.
