Dr. Hernán Ceballos

Hernán Ceballos obtained his Ph.D. in maize breeding from Cornell University and worked in the maize program at CIMMYT for several years in Mexico and Colombia. Gained experience in resistance to diseases, tolerance to acid soils, improving tolerance to inbreeding and quantitative genetics. He worked for 12 years at National University of Colombia where he taught graduate courses in quantitative genetics and crop breeding. Since 1999 he became the cassava breeder at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture. He visited WACCI often and taught modules in quantitative genetics, cassava breeding and breeding for biotic and abiotic stresses. Guided thesis research work of several WACCI students and served as external reviewer for many Ph.D. theses.
