IAST DIRECTOR PAYS WORKING VISIT TO WACCI

The Director, Institute for Applied sciences (IAST), Prof. David Dodoo-Arhin led a delegation from the Institute to pay a working visit to WACCI earlier last week. The purpose of the visit was to congratulate WACCI’s founding Director, Prof. Eric Danquah on his 2022 Africa Food Prize Award, and to explore areas of further collaboration as partners.

Prof. Dodoo-Arhin and his delegation commended WACCI’s Director, Prof Eric Danquah on the immense success of WACCI as one of the World Bank’s leading Africa Centres of Excellence. They also highlighted some of the successful collaborations between WACCI and IAST in the past, including a training on greenhouse farming. In his final remarks, Prof Dodoo-Arhin reiterated his commitment to collaborating with WACCI on future projects, adding that WACCI’s entrepreneurship training mandate through the Kofi Annan Entrepreneurial Hub for Agricultural Innovation is in line with IAST’s drive to promote entrepreneurship. He surmised it will be a great starting point for further partnership and collaboration.

 

Addressing the delegation, Prof Eric Danquah called for the need to rethink how quality education is viewed, highlighting the successes of WACCI’s training model and the world-class quality of WACCI’s graduates. He thanked IAST for the visit while looking forward to further partnership and collaboration.

 

The establishment of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST) follows a trend in academic institutions across the world for interdisciplinary applied research which recognizes that, the problems of development require different science, technology and innovation disciplines working together. The objective in establishing the Institute of Applied Science and Technology is to mobilize University of Ghana faculty and their partners, as well as resources to deliver knowledge, innovation and technology to industry in a targeted manner to facilitate their further development.
