SADASSA Biratu Kassahun

Kassahun Sadessa Biratu is a young researcher working for Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) based at Ambo Plant Protection Research Center (APPRC). He studied Bachelor and Master of Science degree program in plant science and plant pathology, respectively at University of Ambo, Ethiopia. He has worked on few positions in the national research systems viz. coordination of national postharvest research, coordination of APPRC agricultural and nutritional research laboratories process, quality management representative, plant protection research laboratories lead, national variety evaluation technical committee member and contributed on others additional national, institutional and research center assignments. He has established ISO17025 in APPRC research laboratories and authorized as internal auditor for ISO17025 research laboratories. Kassahun has conducted several research works with national plant pathology research of APPRC as team member, specifically served as bacteriology research section leader and researcher. He has good experiences both field and laboratory based diagnosis and identification of phyto-pathogenic pathogens like bacteria, fungi, and viruses as well as beneficial bio-control agents. He conducted many research works on plant pathogenic bacteria like Ralstonia species, Xanthomonus species and Pseudomonus species as well as actively worked on maize lethal necrosis disease (MLND) and published few journal articles with his co-authors. Currently, he has received the DAAD scholarship award of 2018 to pursue his PhD in plant breeding at university of Ghana in West Africa Center for Crop Improvement (WACCI).
