WACCI Advisory Board Chair Appointed Member on the System Management Board Of CGIAR Consortium

The Chair of WACCI Advisory Board, Dr Eugene Terry, has been appointed as an Independent Member on the System Management Board of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Consortium. The 10-member governing board is entrusted with oversight responsibility over the vision, strategic direction, advocacy and governance of the CGIAR Consortium. The governing board also oversees partnership engagements, resource mobilisation, financial and programmatic performance and evaluation of the consortium. Dr Eugene Terry’s appointment took effect on July 1st, 2016.

 

CGIAR Consortium is a research partnership for a food-secure future. This Consortium is made up of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) among others. This group of institutions is dedicated to reducing poverty, enhancing food and nutrition security, and improving natural resources and ecosystem services. They work through close collaboration with hundreds of partners, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organisations, academia, development organisations and the private sector. The CGIAR Consortium has a vision of having “A World free of poverty, hunger and environmental degradation”.

 

 The CGIAR System Management Board is composed of four (4) Centre Director Generals including Dr Martin Kropff, Director General of CIMMYT; who acts as an Interim Board Chair, three (3) Centre Board members, two (2) independent members and an Interim Executive Director who is an ex-officio member. The term of office of members on this Board expires on June 30, 2017.
