Mr. Evans Agortey Sackey, a graduand of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) has accepted the position of a Trial Officer at Syngenta Seeds BV headquartered in Netherlands. He has been assigned to the research and development unit of the company. He will be responsible for vegetable seeds testing developed by the Syngenta Company in different countries in West Africa and select the best ones for commercialisation. Mr. Sackey is currently working as a Research Assistant on testing some Syngenta tomato hybrids in Accra and Wenchi.
Mr. Sackey is part of the maiden class of the innovative 2-year MPhil in Seed Science and Technology programme at WACCI. The programme was launched in 2015 in response to the growing need for experts in the seed sector for the development of a well-structured seed industry in the West African sub-region. The content of the programme exposes students to a better understanding of the state of seed systems in Africa in relation to seed science and production, postharvest management, seed business development, marketing and distribution challenges and strategies for seed systems improvement towards food security.
In an interaction with Mr. Sackey after his interview with Syngenta, he expressed gratitude to the Management and Staff of WACCI for the opportunity granted him and urged the continuing students to take their studies serious as the programme could open life-changing opportunities for them.
