WACCI Wins Outstanding Academic Leadership Award at Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana Awards Night

The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana on December 21, 2018 was awarded the Outatanding Academic Leadership Award at the recently held Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana Awards night which was organized by the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana (CAG) at the Ange Hill Hotel in Accra.

The award which was organized on the theme ‘Publicly Recognizing Efforts and Contribution of Distinguished and Deserving Agribusinesses’ was aimed at building a thriving and booming agribusiness sector leading to entrepreneurship, investment, poverty alleviation, food and nutrition security, wealth creation and contributing to Ghana’s economic development and middle-income status. Twenty-two institutions were awarded prizes in different categories spanning Agribusiness, Financial Institutions and Academic Institutions.

The Chairman of the CAG, Mr. Anthony Morrison,  in his welcome address made known the essence of organizing the awards. According to him, “Before we became agribusiness practitioners, there were some people who have actually shown the way for which we have followed. The essence of the awards night was to reward such people for their achievement and work in promoting and developing a very strong agribusiness and agricultural value chain industry.” Mr. Anthony Morrison further urged the stakeholders within the industry to network enough to move CAG to the next level. Present at the awards night was Mr. Charles Rush, Regional Counsellor for United States Department of Agriculture, Mr. T. V Ganesan, Second Secretary, Indian High Commission and many actors with the Agribusiness community.

In receiving the award in his office, the Director of WACCI, Prof. Eric Danquah reiterated the need for the country to focus on Agricultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He also thanked CAG for championing Agribusiness development in the country.
