In the Eastern part of Nigeria where I come fromfarming is the predominant occupation of the people. Thoughmy parents were civil servants they loved farm work as well. The entire family used to go to farm during holidays especially the long vacation.
At my early age I was exposed to the cultivation of many crops like ricecassavayam and vegetables (e.g. Talinum fruticosumTelfairia occidentalis and Okra). With that background I developed interest in Agriculture. I am the second child in the family of six. I had my 1st degree in Agricultural Technology. I did my National Youth Service Corps with International Institute of Tropical AgricultureOnne StationPort Harcourt Nigeria where I was retained as a result of hard work in 2000. I was one of the two ladies who were field workers in charge of Musa breeding and germplasm improvement programme. In 2002 I went for training in germplasm characterization in CARBAP Njombe. After working for three years I went back to school and earned an MSc. in Crop Science (Breeding Option). In 2008the station closed down. In 2010 I became an adhoc staff of National Root Crop Research Institute (NRCRI) Umudike. Having worked in IITA I was motivated to be a scientistand I desired to be a PhD holder to which WACCI programme is an answered prayer and a break through. I consider the WACCI programme as a total packageas a challengean avenue for interaction with other scientists as well as a tool to turn a Paper breeder into aSeasoned breeder who will positively affect the lives of millions of African Farmers and Consumers. My research is on Developing strategies to enhance the use of inbreeding to produce superior cassava varieties. In other wordsthe use of modern technology to enhance inbreeding in cassava without inbreeding depression. I am married with two boys.
