Nigel J. Taylor

Nigel J. Taylor, Ph.D. is the Dorothy J. King Distinguished Investigator, Associate Member, and PI of the Virus Resistant Cassava for Africa (VIRCA) Project at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. With a background in plant genetic transformation technologies, Dr. Taylor leads his laboratory in developing nutritionally enhanced and virus resistant cassava.  Present activities also include application of genome editing technologies for the improvement of cassava. As PI of the VIRCA Project, Dr. Taylor works to promote collaborative activities between the national agricultural research organizations of Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria with the goal of delivering improved cassava varieties to small-holder farmers after product development, testing and regulatory approval.

Dr. Taylor serves as Chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Board for the St. Louis Community College Biotechnology Program.

A native of Scotland, Dr. Nigel Taylor received his B.Sc. in Botany with First Class Honours from University of Glasgow, and his Ph.D. in Plant Tissue Culture from University of Bath, UK.
