Program Overview
Under the World Bank-Africa Centres of Excellence Project, the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana is in collaboration with the Seed Science Centre at Iowa State University, USA to launch an innovative Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programme in Seed Science and Technology.
The programme offers interdisciplinary training that emphasises the development of superior problem- solving and analytical skills by providing students with current seed science and technology instruction along with essential modules in business management in a rigorous, integrated curriculum to develop a network of broadly trained individuals that can work effectively to improve access to high quality seeds.
The MPhil at WACCI is a two-year programm, students will undertake nine months of coursework at the University of Ghana and proceed to a research institution or private seed company, locally or abroad for a three-month experiential attachment to develop skills in Seed Technology. Students will undertake their theses research in the second year.

When students complete the PhD in Plant Breeding, they should be able to:
Conduct original, publishable research in plant breeding and genetics
Demonstrate practical knowledge in plant breeding and genetics
Clearly communicate their research to professional and lay audiences
Set up and manage a plant breeding programme successfully
