Call for Mentors: VACS Capacity Mentorship Program Hosted by the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, Legon.

Background
The Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS) is an initiative led by the US State Department, in partnership with the African Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), aimed at enhancing the resilience of agrifood systems across Africa. The initiative focuses on increasing the productivity of opportunity crops, promoting nutrition through climate-resilient cropping systems, improving soil health, and strengthening the research capacity of African scientists. The initiative focuses on seven priority crops: pigeon pea, bambara groundnut, taro, sesame, finger millet, okra, and amaranth. By improving these underutilized crops, VACS aims to address key challenges in agricultural sustainability, food security, and climate resilience.

As a VACS Africa Hub of Excellence, WACCI is at the forefront of the VACS Capacity Program. WACCI is calling for experienced and committed mentors to join this mentorship initiative, which seeks to build the capacity of African scientists and breeders. WACCI aims to equip the next generation of agricultural leaders with the skills necessary to tackle the challenges of climate change, food security, and sustainable agriculture.
