
Fifteen students from the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) graduated from the University of Ghana on July 25, 2025, during a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the University. The graduating class included three PhD students and twelve MPhil students.
The PhD graduates, Dr. Abigail Tweneboah Asare from Ghana, Dr. Emmanuel Gilbert Omiat from Uganda, and Dr. Rodrigue Akomonla Ogougra Adjibogou from Benin earned their doctoral degrees in Plant Breeding. Their research is expected to make significant contributions to agriculture and food security in their respective countries and across the African continent.

The twelve MPhil graduates, who received Master of Philosophy degrees in Seed Science and Technology, comprised five female and seven male graduates from Ghana, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. The graduates from Ghana were Awiniboya Fuseini Stephen, Desmond Agbleke, Theophilus Addo, Priscilla Yaa Asantewaa Akonnor, Patrick Alhassan Napari, Maud Maayaa Asare, Adams Abdul-Rahim, Samuel Nii Amponsah Wristberg, and Jessica Naa Offeibea Dodoo. Others were Michael Isaac Agbodo and Ajaere Laurabrender Munachimso from Nigeria and Ulitile Muchivete from Zimbabwe.

The latest cohorts of WACCI graduates bring the total to 120 PhD degrees and 62 MPhil degrees awarded to students from 15 African countries since its inception.
