WACCI Alumnus Appointed Deputy Director of CSIR-SARI

Dr. Joseph Adjebeng-Danquah, an alumnus of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI).

Dr. Danquah was a member of WACCI’s third PhD cohort, enrolling in 2010 and graduating in 2015. His doctoral research focused on “Genetic Studies of Physiological and Morphological Traits Associated with Drought Tolerance in Cassava Genotypes.”

 

With nearly 17 years of experience in plant breeding and adaptive research, Dr. Adjebeng-Danquah has been instrumental in designing and developing climate-smart, sustainable agricultural technologies that cater to the needs of farmers and end-users. He has also been a key figure in the release of seven varieties of sweet potatoes tailored for the Guinea Savannah ecology of Ghana.

Dr. Adjebeng-Danquah has held several leadership positions within CSIR-SARI, including serving as the Head of the Scientific Support Group from January 2019 to December 2020. Notably, he also led the Research Staff Association, CSIR-SARI branch, as president from March 2016 to January 2018, and served as the national vice president of the Research Staff Association for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Ghana, from October 2017 to October 2019.

 

In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Adjebeng-Danquah has made significant contributions to science with over 70 publications, including refereed journal papers, book chapters, conference papers, and training manuals.
