WACCI Alumnus Appointed Director of Research and Innovation at Ho Technical University

Dr. Fafa

The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, is proud to announce that Professor Kenneth Fafa Egbadzor, a distinguished alumnus, has been appointed Director of Research and Innovation at Ho Technical University (HTU).

Prof. Egbadzor enrolled in the WACCI PhD in Plant Breeding programme in January 2011 and graduated in 2014. His research titled “Genetic Control and Breeding for Seed Size and Colour in Cowpea,” made a significant contribution to cowpea improvement in Ghana.

Prior to joining HTU, Prof. Egbadzor served as a Senior Research Scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Plant Genetic Resources Institute (CSIR-PGRI), where he conducted extensive work in agriculture, plant breeding, and biodiversity conservation.

At Ho Technical University, he has held several key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, and Deputy Director of the Technical and Vocational Education Research Centre (TVERC).

Currently, Prof. Egbadzor is leading innovative research initiatives at HTU, with a particular focus on the baobab tree (Adansonia digitata), an underutilised species with significant economic and ecological potential. Under his leadership, the university is establishing model baobab farms in the Volta and Upper West Regions of Ghana, with the aim of planting 2,000 trees to help restore biodiversity and create sustainable livelihoods.

In his new role as Director of Research and Innovation, Prof. Egbadzor will be responsible for promoting, coordinating, and facilitating all research and innovation-related activities at HTU.

WACCI congratulates Prof. Kenneth Fafa Egbadzor on this well-deserved appointment and celebrates his remarkable contributions to agricultural research and development. We wish him continued success in his new role at Ho Technical University.
