Fifteen WACCI Students Graduate from the University...

Fifteen students from the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) graduated from the University of Ghana on August 10, 2024, during a ceremony held at the Cedi Conference of the University of Ghana. The graduates include six PhD students and nine MPhil students. 

The six PhD graduates, who received their doctorate degrees in Plant Breeding, consist of four females and two males from three African countries: Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal. Their research, which focuses on crops such as cassava, rice, maize, and pepper, is expected to make substantial contributions to advancing agriculture and food sustainability in their respective countries and across the continent.

The nine MPhil graduates, who earned their Master of Philosophy degrees in Seed Science and Technology, consist of three females and six males from two African countries: Ghana and Benin.

Since its establishment in 2007, WACCI has consistently demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence. The Centre has evolved into one of the world’s largest PhD education programmes, gaining recognition as a leading Centre of Excellence in agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship.

The latest cohorts of WACCI graduates bring the total to 117 PhD degrees and 50 MPhil degrees awarded to students from 15 African countries.
