Prof. Eric Danquah Named Among Ghana’s 100 Most Influential People

Prof. Eric Danquah, Founding Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, has been recognised as one of Ghana’s 100 Most Influential People at the Ghana 100 Most Influential People Awards (MIPA), organised by the Business Executive Group.

The award ceremony, held on November 28, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), sought to honour individuals whose work has demonstrated excellence, innovation and contributed to Ghana’s development.

Prof. Danquah’s recognition underscores his remarkable contributions to plant breeding innovation, capacity building, and sustainable agricultural development. Under his visionary leadership, WACCI has become a beacon of agricultural innovation in Africa - training over 160 PhD and 110 MPhil students from across the continent, developing high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties, and driving cutting-edge research that strengthens food and nutrition security throughout the region.

 

This honour reflects Prof. Danquah’s exceptional influence in agricultural research and leadership across the African continent. 

 

The event brought together award recipients and their guests, top public officials, leading figures in industry and commerce, national thought leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps. This year marked the 3rd edition of the awards, held under the theme “Recognizing the People Who Can Drive Ghana’s Reset.”
