When do I need to apply?

Call for applications are advertised extensively on the WACCI website beginning February each year. Applicants are advised to frequently visit the University of Ghana website; www.ug.edu.gh as well as the WACCI website; www.wacci.ug.edu.gh

 

How do I apply?

All applications are done online. Applicants are advised to visit WACCI’s website; www.wacci.ug.edu.gh and apply when the call for application are flagged. Applicants complete the forms online and upload supporting documents (transcripts, certificates and recommendation letters etc.)

 

Who qualifies to apply?

Applicants for the MPhil programmes requires a Bachelor’s degree in Crop Science or related field with a graduating class of at least Second Class upper. Those applying for PhD programmes should have an MPhil degree in Crop Science or related field.

 

What is the academic programme structure?

The curriculum at WACCI is both theoretical and practical. Students are required to research and explore their fields or study under supervision. This gives students the chance to use their ideas and initiatives.

 

What is the duration of the academic programmes

The PhD programmes are 4 years while the MPhil programmes are 2 years.

 

What English language requirements must one have to study at WACCI?

Applicants who have not been instructed in English at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels must have a test score of at least 550 (paper test) or 213 (computer test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Are scholarships available?

Applying to WACCI with a supporting scholarship body, or self-sponsorship increases one’s chance of being enrolled to WACCI once all other criteria have been met. Applicants without such opportunities are given the opportunity to apply for DAAD scholarships and for any other partnering scholarships.

 

Is there accommodation for students on campus?

WACCI helps students to secure accommodation at halls and hostels of the University on campus upon request. Accommodation is however self-sponsored by students or by scholarship awarding institutions that support students.

 

Do I need to translate my document into English?

Applicants do not need to translate documents into English. WACCI is a regional centre. 50% of students are from Francophone countries.

 

Does WACCI accept Francophone students?

The programmes are instructed in English language, however, Francophone and other non-English speaking students are taken through English language proficiency lessons which runs throughout the first year of the MPhil and PhD programmes.
