WACCI HOLDS ITS ELEVENTH ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

The 11th Advisory Board meeting of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) was held on March 8, 2018 at University of Ghana. The meeting which was attended by all the board members focused on the sustainability of the Centre beyond the AGRA and World Bank funded phases. The board members were: Dr. Eugene Terry, Senior Advisor, Transfarms Ltd., Washington DC, USA; Dr. Ronnie Coffman, Director, International Programs, College of Agriculture and Life Science, Cornell University, Ithaca, USA; Dr. Rufaro Madakadze, Program Officer, Education, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Nairobi, Kenya; Professor Mark Laing, Director, African Centre for Crop Improvement, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Petermaritzburg, South Africa and Dr. Addou Tenkouano, Executive Director, CORAF/WECARD, Dakar, Senegal.

The Board gave Management of WACCI high praise for the massive developments at the Centre including near completion of the construction of the new multipurpose building and pledged its support for the initiatives in place to sustain the Centre.  The Board endorsed WACCI’s strategic intent to transform the Centre into a sustainable research-intensive institution for agricultural innovations for the inclusive transformation of agriculture in Africa. Also present as an observer at the Board meeting was Emeritus Professor Vernon Gracen of Cornell University, founding Associate Director of Curriculum Development and Teaching Programmes at WACCI. The Board meeting was climaxed with an interactive dinner for the Board, Management and staff of WACCI.
