KAEHAI Organizes Curriculum Validation Workshop Prior To Start Of Entrepreneurship Training And Incubator Programme

The Kofi Annan Enterprise Hub for Agricultural Innovation (KAEHAI) at the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana (UG), organized a curriculum validation workshop on March 14, 2023 at The African Regent Hotel to review and validate the Entrepreneurship Curriculum that had been developed for the KAEHAI – KGL Foundation Entrepreneurship and Incubator Programme. 

 

In attendance were University of Ghana (UG) faculty from WACCI, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Agricultural Extension and Crop Science, as well as representatives from the Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID), UG, Institute of Statistical and Social Research (ISSER), West Africa Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP), Chamber of Agribusiness, Ghana, Ghana Enterprises Agency and Agricultural Development Bank.

Dr. John Eleblu, Senior Lecturer, Biotechnology Centre and facilitator for the event, opened the session at 10:30 a.m., briefing participants on the purpose of the workshop and introducing Prof. Irene S. Egyir, Dean, School of Agriculture and Instructor for the KAEHAI – KGL Foundation Entrepreneurship and Incubator Programme, as the chairperson.

 

Prof. Egyir, in her opening remarks, expressed excitement about the Entrepreneurship and Incubator Programme and wished participants a productive working session.

 

Six Programme Instructors, Prof. Irene Egyir; Prof. Samuel N.Y. Simpson, University of Ghana Business School (UGBS); Dr. Freda Asem; Senior Lecturer, Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness; Dr. John S. Y. Eleblu, Senior Lecturer, Biotechnology Centre; Dr. Daniel Dzidzienyo, Senior Lecturer, Biotechnology Centre; and Dr. Edward Asiedu, Senior Lecturer, UGBS, gave presentations on each of the 12 modules in the Curriculum, providing course descriptions and identifying key activities that would benefit trainees. Mrs. Diana Owusu Antwi, Research Development Officer, ORID, gave a presentation on Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, highlighting the relevance of the topic to startups. Consequently, there was a consensus to add the topic as a module to the Entrepreneurship Curriculum.

 

The innovative curriculum was developed for full integration into WACCI’s academic programmes and other existing ones at the College of Basic and Applied Science.
