Cornell University Explores Partnership Opportunities with WACCI

A delegation from Cornell University led by the Provost , Prof. Michael Kotlikoff recently visited the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) as part of their visit to the University of Ghana to explore partnerships with various units in the University. The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into WACCI's operations and initiatives.

 

Annual Review and Strategic Planning Workshop

The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) held its Annual Review and Strategic Planning Workshop from February 5 – 9, 2024 at the Peninsula Resort and Golf Club, Eastern Region.

 

The workshop aimed to review the Centre's activities for the year 2023 and formulate a strategic action plan to promote sustainable and transformative growth in the Centre.

 

WACCI PhD Cohort 11 Students

The West African Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana has graduated its 11th cohort of PhD Plant Breeding Candidates at a graduation ceremony held on January 23, 2024 at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana.

 

Prof. Eric Danquah of WACCI Engages with Finance Minister

Prof. Eric Danquah, Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), has taken a pivotal step in advancing African agriculture by meeting with Hon. Ken Ofori Atta, the Minister for Finance. Their discussion centred on The Africa Academy of Agricultural Sciences (TAAAS), an ambitious initiative aiming to transform African agriculture through local scientific expertise and global partnerships.

WACCI RECEIVED TWO AWARDS

The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) received the Outstanding Agriculture Research Leadership Institution of the Year award at the 2023 Africa Agribusiness Awards held recently in Accra. The theme for this year's awards was "AFCFTA and Africa’s Agriculture Synergy to Stimulate and Accelerate Sustainable Economic Growth and Food Security".

University of Cambridge Crop Science Centre

A delegation from the University of Cambridge, Crop Science Centre paid a visit to the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) to initiate discussions aimed at strengthening research collaboration between the two institutions.

This visit was also to allow the delegation to gain a better understanding of WACCI’s research capacities. 

Agyemang & Daniel

The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Agyemang Danquah and Dr. Daniel K. Dzidzienyo as Deputy Directors. Effective from October 2, 2023, Dr. Danquah will serve as the Deputy Director of Research, Innovation and Development, while Dr. Dzidzienyo will assume the role of Deputy Director of Administration, Teaching and Learning.

The Founding Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), Prof. Eric Yinrenkyi Danquah has been appointed as one of the inaugural members of the UK-CGIAR Centre Science and Impact Advisory Group.

The Kofi Annan Enterprise Hub for Agricultural Innovation (KAEHAI) at the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana (UG), organized a curriculum validation workshop on March 14, 2023 at The African Regent Hotel to review and validate the Entrepreneurship Curriculum that had been developed for the KAEHAI – KGL Foundation Entrepreneurship and Incubator Programme.
